Excellent 4-seaon tent
5 Stars
Excellent 4-seaon tent
This is probably the best quality affordable 4 season backpacking tent out there. And what I mean by that is you can live in this tent for about 4 seasons before it wears out. I would know because I've done it twice now.I originally purchased this tent two years ago because I had been camping in Utah for several months and it was getting colder and I wasn't confident my other tent would hold up in the winter. I looked at a lot of tents online and the thing that caught my eye about this one was the skirt around the foot of the tent. I had previously camped in Idaho winter weather in a similar tent that I think cost around $300, and it was a great tent except that the wind would occasionally blow snow up underneath the rain fly. When I saw the skirt on this tent I figured who ever designed it probably actually knew a thing or two about camping in the winter (and the price was unbeatable) so I went ahead and purchased it. And then I slept in it for the whole winter. And then spring, and then summer, and then fall. By that point the zippers had started to wear out and the rain fly had been weakened by UV light from being outside all summer and fall. And so I purchased two more of them. I gave one away and a little over a year later, I'm sitting in the second one in November in Idaho writing up this review.Who ever designed this tent knew what they were doing. Simple, elegant, durable, versatile, and light weight are all words that describe it. The inner tent has a waterproofed nylon floor to keep out moisture from the ground and the right amount of mesh on top to provide ventilation to minimize condensation and keep mosquitoes and insects out. The outer layer is also made from thoughly waterproofed nylon such that no water can get in from the outside. The seams are properly seam taped. The skirt prevents wind from blowing snow or rain in. And even the vents can be closed if you're in an extreme blizzard. The only moisture that you deal with in this tent when it is set up properly is condensation. There is really no way I know of to avoid having some level of condensation in a small tent in the winter (except possibly holding your breath all night) but the elegance of this design is that almost all the condensation condenses on the outer layer of the tent and runs down into the dirt. That way everything in the inner tent stays dry. On really really cold nights I have noticed a little bit of frost in the inner tent, and sometimes in the mornings when the sun is melting the frost at the peak of the rain fly a little bit will drip down through the mesh rather than run down the side into the dirt. But overall, it really does stay almost bone dry all through the winter.I've slept in this tent during strong wind, torrential rain, 3 to 5 inches of snow, and single digit temperatures. It handles it all just fine. I think it could handle significantly heavier snow but 3 to 5 inches is the most I've had in one night before (I checked it with a tape measure). If you are expecting realy heavy snow, I recommend using the ties on the inside of the rain fly that tie around the poles because this will stabilize the poles to be able to hold significantly more weight without buckling. One review said they got 2 feet of snow in one night. I'm guessing that was a bit of an exaggeration, but I would say that this tent is easily strong enough to hold 10 to 12 inches of snow without collapsing.*Update, It's January now and I've moved to northern Idaho about 8 miles from the Canadian border. It hit -18 degrees Farenheit the other night and I'm still sleeping in the tent every night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Snow Tent
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2019
I bought this tent for camping in the Grand Canyon after seeing a forecast for snow. It is super light and setting it up took ten minutes. The tent poles are very strong and the tent material for both the inner and outer tents was light, but strong. It also comes with quality lightweight stakes that I was able to hammer all the way into the ground and pull out of icy snow without bending.
Space inside is perfect for two people side by side with duffel bags at our feet. I could lay three Z insulation pads next to each other so we weren’t cramped.
It was about 20F when I got in the tent for the night and the tent was dry and warmer even after sleet and flurries all day. Overnight it snowed two feet and I didn’t even notice until I heard my fellow campers digging themselves out of their collapsed tents. This Geertop tent has steep walls that prevented snow buildup from bending the poles so the tent was exactly as we had set it up. There was minimal condensation in the tent and I was able to keep my boots dry and snow-free in the space between the inner and outer tent flaps. The temperature outside was around 15F and I was very comfortable in the tent with my sleeping bag unzipped. (Our mummy sleeping bags were rated to 14F.)
Having two doors was very convenient and I loved that the outer tent had strong door flaps that help up against the wind and weight of the snow.
Packing the tent back up was a breeze even while another blizzard was kicking up. The snow shook off easily and both tent and outer fly were totally dry so I was able to roll them up and pack them into their bag quickly.
I am extremely impressed with the quality and durability, especially in winter storm conditions. For $100 you cannot get a better winter tent than this Geertop.

5.0 out of 5 stars home away from home

I have had mine for a few seasons now and it has been an awesome little tent. I wanted a tent that would be great for solo trips, and primitive sights. I had a few things on my checklist and this tent has worked well.
It is cool and airy when it is hot, warm and dry when it's cold and wet. It's small and light enough for bike and canoe camping and short backpacking trips. (If your trying to be super light this might not be the one.) I've used it on the open beach, and in the shaded woods. It gets plenty of ventilation and air with it's mesh top and screen doors closed when the fly is off, yet still offers plenty of privacy when sleeping or changing. With the fly on, it offers protection from wind and rain and can be cozy. It has stood up to a stiff breezes while island camping, and kept out light rain. I haven't been in HEAVY rain with it....but I always apply scotch guard to my tents (at least the fly) before adventures. I've had no leaks or tears. It is uber roomy for one camper and able to accommodate 2 if they "like each other". The dual doors again are great for ventilation, egressing when accommodating two campers, and stowing gear. It is self standing, so no worries if pitching in sand, grass or in your living room. Been happy with my purchase and look forward to using it on my next trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bang for buck!
Reviewed in Canada on June 24, 2019
I bought this tent to use as a 1-person with the option of a second person. I am very happy with the purchase, the quality of the tent seems very good, I expect this tent to last a long time. The inner vestibule has lots of mesh, so it is very breathable while the outside rainfly provides excellent coverage from the elements. There is lots of room for two people, you could easily roll around or even store your bags inside or there is plenty of space to store your bags underneath the rainfly. It was very easy to setup, even with one person.

My first complaints are that I thought there was more storage, there are only two storage pockets in the corners and one on the top (which is ~6"x10"). My second complaint is that it only comes with two sets of rope, I think a tent like this should have come with 4.

Otherwise, great back for buck!
